Before the process of harvesting the wheat the wheat any tares are separated. This is what I believe to be happening now.
Mat 13:24 — Mat 13:30
The Parable of the Wheat and the Tares
Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.”
Before the wheat berry can be gathered into the barn the following must take place.
The first step in the process of harvesting wheat is to loosen the chaff from the edible grain, which is called threshing. The way it was done was to spread the wheat onto a floor made from stone, or tamped earth and to beat it with a flail , a stick, an animal, or a threshing sledge. After threshing had been completed, the refuse removed, the next step in the process is/was winnowing.
Winnowing is where the loosened chaff is removed from the grain. The way of doing this is to throw the grain in the air, where the lighter chaff is blown off by even a decent breeze. The heavier grain falls back to the ground below.
His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
The chaff is the outer covering of the grain and has absolutely no nutritional value. This is what the Pharisees and Saducees were all about in that they put on a good religious demonstration of outward piety but inwardly were a brood of vipers which is what both John the baptist and Jesus called them.
The final step is ‘sifting’ and its purpose is to separate. The sifting occurred once the wheat had been gathered in and winnowed. The wheat was gathered up off the floor or ground and shaken in a sieve to remove the debris that may have been gathered in with the wheat berries. The sieve was held in both hands and shaken forcefully from side to side; the lighter chaff would come to the surface and would then be blown away by the mouth. It was a vigorous process. The wheat is shaken and falls to the ground and what is left in the sieve is rubble, dirt and garbage which is discarded as it is useless.
Sifting is the final purification and cleansing of the wheat berry before it is gathered and stored.
Of all the processes that take place to take wheat from stalk to being ready for storage it is sifting, the last step in the process, where Satan takes an interest.
Luk 22:31 — Luk 22:32
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial
And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”
First off Peter is identified by the Lord as wheat and not chaff which is blown away meaning that Peter had both substance and value. May we all be identified by the Lord as wheat and not chaff. God’s purpose in sifting is for good in that He is separating us from that which would make us impure. Satan, on the other hand, sifts to destroy one’s faith.
With all that said I am posting below a vision I have had for the past couple of days where I have seen a sieve held by two hands being shaken but instead of wheat in the sieve I saw people. I saw some remaining in the sieve as it was being shaken; some were falling through but hanging on while others fell through.
It is my belief that this could be a picture of the process that Christians will go through prior to the rapture. I further believe that sifting, persecution, and the great falling away are all related.
And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.
Those that endure to the end will be saved.
