How Do You Read
A few questions before posting my dream.
When reading the Bible, do you believe what you read or read what you believe?
Do you Fear a God who has the power to cast both physical body and soul into an eternal he’ll from whence there’s no escape?
Now to my dream.
I had a dream where I saw a church completed with pews and pulpit. I saw a congregation seated ready to hear a sermon. I saw the preacher standing at the pulpit ready to give it. However, this is where things were different. In back of the pulpit where one would normally see a Cross there was instead a large golden calf. I watched the preacher turn from facing the congregation towards the calf. The calf had a door in its side that the preacher opened and inside it contained what looked like a Bible which the preacher took out and began to preach to the congregation from.
Think of the characteristics of the golden calf.
It has no life in it nor can it impart life.
It can’t see
It can’t hear
It can’t speak
It can’t do anything.
Does this sound familiar?
Exo 32:1 — Exo 32:9
The Gold Calf
32 Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” And Aaron said to them, “Break off the golden earrings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” So all the people broke off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron. And he received the gold from their hand, and he fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made a molded calf.
Then they said, “This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!”
So when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation and said, “Tomorrow is a feast to the Lord.” Then they rose early on the next day, offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
Notice that the people contributed to the making of the golden calf. Jesus said where your heart is there is also your treasure.
Aaron fashioned the golden calf from the golden jewelry received from the Israelites.
Then, after seeing the people’s reaction to it built an altar to it and declared, “tomorrow is a feast to the Lord”.
It states that after the people brought their offerings they rose up to play which means that they had an orgy.
I will go back to what I asked at the beginning of my post. Does it strike terror in your heart to realize that God can cast both body and soul into hell .
Or, is the “god”, you serve one made by human hands whom you do not have to worry about leading a sinful life because it doesn’t see what you do, hear what you say, and cannot speak so as to correct you or take action to discipline you.
I will end with the following quotes from A.W. Tozer
“Any objection to the evangelistic methods of our present golden-calf Christianity, is met with the triumphant reply, “But we are winning the lost!”
And what are you winning them to?
To true discipleship?
To separation from the world?
To crucifixion of the flesh?
To holy living?
To nobility of character?
To a despising of the world’s treasures?
To total committal to Christ?
Of course, the answer to all these questions is NO!”
Let us beware that the Jesus we “accept” is not one we have created out of the dust of our imagination and formed after our own likeness.
