Good vs. Bad Fruit Trees

Mat 7:15 — Mat 7:20

You Will Know Them by Their Fruits

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

I had a dream before waking where I was in a fruit orchard. I saw some trees standing while others were cut down.  I also saw people going up to trees and picking fruit and as they took their first bite they became sick. They went to the tree for food without first discerning the nature of the fruit they were about to eat.

I have the following observations about this dream:

If Jesus is warning of false prophets then there must also be true prophets of the Lord as well. For example, you would not have counterfeit money in existence if real money didn’t exist as there would be no reason to do so. So the warning given by Jesus to beware of false prophets means that there are true prophets.

The fact that the people in my dream were going haphazardly up to any tree without first stopping to discerning the fruit of the tree can be likened to Eve’s eating of the forbidden fruit because it was pleasing to the eye, i.e., gratified the flesh, and good for food. We tend to judge by sight and stop there. If we like what we see and hear then we eat not realising the consequences of our actions.

I also noticed in the dream that trees had been cut down. Jesus said that these trees which bore bad Fruit would be cut down and cast into the fire.

We need to pray that  God would grant us discernment. We need to pray that God helps us to get our flesh in check so that we won’t be drawn to these trees, i.e., false prophets, that bear bad fruit.

We need to pray that God cleanse us of the bad fruit, i.e., false teachings, that we may have already eaten.

We also need to take personal responsibility to search the scriptures for ourselves and check the veracity of what is being taught.

A true prophets or teacher will not be upset if his word or teaching is challenged but will instead be happy that an individual is seeking the Lord for his/herself.

  1. A timely word.

    Amen.

  2. This is so interesting (again).
Simple (just look at the fruits), and at the same time it is not! Not: if we don’t know how the fruits should look like?

There is for example controversy about the phenomen where people fall behind when they got touched by someone. I always left it in the middle. But lately I heard someone saying: when there is presence of the Lord, people bow down, and don’t fall backwards, falling backwards is judgement. I never looked at it that way! It gives food for thought.

I know someone who has a livelong injury from falling backwards.

  3. This is a very important message from the Lord, I think most Christians do not realize the seriousness of being deceived just because they do not believe the bible is our life saving book, saving from deception. If they read the bible they would know that God said, we are to love the truth and whoever does not love the truth is bent on destruction. Following false teachers is our own fault, especially when we are mature in the faith. I have fallen into false teachings a few times when I was still a baby Christian, but the Lord pulled me out of it mercifully, it was very painful. So when you hear anybody speaking against the bible run as fast as you can. Solid biblical teaching is the most important thing in the life of a Christian. As far as falling backwards is concerned, somebody made research and found out that none of the people of God in the bible ever fell backwards, so maybe there is something not right in it Tony? I do not know how people feel the power of the Holy Spirit that makes them fall. For me it has been always rivers of tears, mostly sudden and so deep it cannot be expressed. When I hear about people falling under the power of the Holy Spirit it reminds me Benny Hinn and all those crazy false anointing of Toronto etc, so I would be quite terrified to fall in any way. The most important advice I have ever read was – If you think you can never be deceived, you are deceived already. So be on guard always.

    • Jn 18:5 — Jn 18:6
They answered Him, “Jesus of Nazareth.”
Jesus said to them, “I am He.” And Judas, who betrayed Him, also stood with them. Now when He said to them, “I am He,” they drew back and fell to the ground.
I have experienced the Lord’s power and fell because of being overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit. With that said I hear your words of caution about false teachers. We all need to be vigilant when it comes to false teachers.

      • I was once in the church where they practice so called, unbiblical slaying in the spirit, they pushed me and tried to make me fall on the floor, I went down by the power of my own stupidity, not the Holy Spirit. I was on the ground thinking what kind of falsehood was that and just wanted to run. They prayed with so called tongues which was totally ridiculous and altogether it was the most idiotic and false experience in my life. It was total embarrassment to my faith and that Pentecostal church. It took me a long while to recover from that event, it tasted very bitter. I never came back to that church. It was at the beginning when i was very hungry for all miracles, tongues and the power of the Holy Spirit. The Lord showed me to stop it and concentrate on getting to know Him and His word instead. The Holy Spirit also shook me to the core not to trust in men but Jesus alone. so I have been trying to be careful but still fell a few times into false teaching. Nowadays, it is very difficult not to be deceived, especially when people ignore the bible.

Yes, those people you mention were not the people of God. they came with Judas. People of God never fell backward. They fell face to the ground.

3 Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.

4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?

5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.

6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.

        John 18

      • It sounds like you experienced what I call emotional hype and not the Spirit of God. I have never been pushed. But I can understand that you were made to feel very foolish by those pushing you. Tongues are a gift from God but can be missed like any of the gifts of the Spirit. We do need to immerse ourselves in God’s Word and have an understanding of it but we also equally need to rely on God’s Holy Spirit to guide us.

Thank you for visiting my site and for your comment because it led me to yours. I’ve been pursuing it all morning and have to say that you really have me thinking. You encourage: “We also need to take personal responsibility to search the scriptures for ourselves and check the veracity of what is being taught.” I couldn’t agree more…the church needs to be eating meat and discerning the times. Our feel-good culture, even among believers, leaves us grazing on devotionals and not the sincere meat of God’s Word. Thank you for sounding the alarm! Grace and Peace.
