Good vs. Bad Fruit Trees
Mat 7:15 — Mat 7:20
You Will Know Them by Their Fruits
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
I had a dream before waking where I was in a fruit orchard. I saw some trees standing while others were cut down. I also saw people going up to trees and picking fruit and as they took their first bite they became sick. They went to the tree for food without first discerning the nature of the fruit they were about to eat.
I have the following observations about this dream:
If Jesus is warning of false prophets then there must also be true prophets of the Lord as well. For example, you would not have counterfeit money in existence if real money didn’t exist as there would be no reason to do so. So the warning given by Jesus to beware of false prophets means that there are true prophets.
The fact that the people in my dream were going haphazardly up to any tree without first stopping to discerning the fruit of the tree can be likened to Eve’s eating of the forbidden fruit because it was pleasing to the eye, i.e., gratified the flesh, and good for food. We tend to judge by sight and stop there. If we like what we see and hear then we eat not realising the consequences of our actions.
I also noticed in the dream that trees had been cut down. Jesus said that these trees which bore bad Fruit would be cut down and cast into the fire.
We need to pray that God would grant us discernment. We need to pray that God helps us to get our flesh in check so that we won’t be drawn to these trees, i.e., false prophets, that bear bad fruit.
We need to pray that God cleanse us of the bad fruit, i.e., false teachings, that we may have already eaten.
We also need to take personal responsibility to search the scriptures for ourselves and check the veracity of what is being taught.
A true prophets or teacher will not be upset if his word or teaching is challenged but will instead be happy that an individual is seeking the Lord for his/herself.
