Who’s Being Lifted Up?

Jesus said:

And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all to Myself.  (Joh 12:32)

I had a very tragic vision on 07/25/2010. In the vision I could see many preachers, their pulpits
were lined up next to each other, they were very learned men, some were in suits and some were in robes, and they were preaching to a very large …congregation . The eyes of everyone in the congregation and their attention were on these preachers. In back of these preachers I could see Jesus on the cross. Not one of the preachers ever mentioned the cross in his preaching and no one in the congregation ever looked at the cross, their eyes were on the preachers and they were attentive to the “wisdom” that was being taught by them.

Jesus said in John that if He was lifted up that He would draw all men to Himself. In the vision that the Lord gave me 4 years ago, it was not Jesus and the cross that was the draw but instead it was the “wisdom” of the pastors preaching to the congregation. The congregation paid absolutely no attention to Jesus nor the cross but their focus was on the pastors and their “wisdom’.  Which brings me to the title of my post. Who is being lifted up? Whom is the church gathering to hear from?  What is the draw, if you will, that is attracting them? The verse below is what comes to mind.

For a time will be when they will not endure sound doctrine, but they will heap up teachers to themselves according to their own lusts, tickling the ear. And they will turn away their ears from the truth and will be turned to myths. (2Ti 4:3-4)

    Hi Tony,
This is happening now, many people are listening to pastors that don’t preach the truth of Jesus Christ, or the truth of salvation. You vision was true on many preacher today.

In many teachings these days, we learn to use only the Name of Jesus (just that), but we don’t learn anymore about having an intimate relation. About that He already made victory and it can come in our hands by having Him as our teacher. We learn to be ” self-sufficient” yes, by using His Name (only). Like the 7 sons of Skevas. We can do anything, according to those teachings. It is on the surface, unfortunately and does a lot of harm instead of good.

  3. To follow the ‘wise teaching’ of someone rather than trusting our relationship with Jesus is an easy trap to fall into. And much easier than trying to maintain that relationship. I liked the earlier comment by Sandra about the seven sons and using the name without the relationship. nice post.

    Hi Tony and Nate
Yes, these are very shallowly/superfisial teachings(-sorry English is not my motherlanguage, so sometimes I use 2 words with the help of a translate-site and you have to pick the right one- 🙂 ).
There is more to it: exactly, the intimate relationship with the Father. Which is easier said than done sometimes ! So believing is not shallowly/superfisial at all, we are responsible for how hard we keep chasing, it is easier to read books about the life of faith, much easier, ready made chunks (note: in some cases helpfull but it depends who’s it is) but…we have to be carefull with that. It is comparable with having a license /subscription at the sportschool (when you are a member) it does not make you slim automaticly (unfortunately), you still have to make an effort.
Well, I have many books which I bought in the past years. Some of them were helpfull, but the other books I think I will throw them away. Some writers encourage you to do the battle, and then it is all about authority they say. Yes it is indeed (about authority) but nobody says: ‘be carefull ! Don’t do this when you don’t have much of intimacy with the Father ! There are things that endanger/decrease this authority ! Be sure you have it right otherwise you mess things up instead that they get fixed !’
I once was very enthousiastically with my ‘authority’ and the bindingstuff. But I will never do it again in that matter, it made me feel empty and sad and I thought: now I only USE the Name of Jesus, and that’s all. Where is Jesus ?? If this is the way I would not need Him anymore. And nothing got fixed, on the contrary. (like those 7 sons). A good lesson though.
I’m starting to think that real authority has to do with meekness, obedience and humility. We don’t need to scream, beat our chests or make a show.
I love testimonies (these are honest, it is what people have been through themselves, their experience, very learnful) , but I quess writers/teachers shouldnot make things sound like superficial successtories only. People get hurt, dissappointed by that because it does not work for them (because they only heard the half) , and they think they failed. It’s also okay when people are honest. ‘I don’t understand, I still struggle with this or that, how can that be’. One wants to seem more spiritual than the other, so all are so in ‘victory’. Other people feel less because of that, they think they do something wrong, cause they don’t feel this victory all the time. As being part of His body we could really mean more for eachother if people are honest, but there is some spiritual snobism. It is like people don’t dare to talk and say : ‘it is still not going well with me’ It is almost a shame when you admit: ‘I don’t feel totally free, what’s going on?’ Maybe that is : love gets colder in the last days. I don’t know. I like sharp messages too. But it is all so sweet and tame. Here we have the saying: lenient healers create stinking wounds
Yeah here in Holland, I’m missing the practical things, which people can tell eachother from their own experience, that you can really help eachother. But I notices several times, that I tried to say something for a person in a certain situation, and that they don’t want to take it FROM ME. Because they value themselves higher (or want to).
    God bless you !

    • What you seem to be longing for Sandra is intimate fellowship. Paul talks of this in Corinthians.

      1 Corinthians 14:26-32 NIV

What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up. If anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most three—should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and to God. Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said. And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop. For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged. The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets. I am posting a vision that speaks to this.

    • The Lord showed me a vision 02/26/2013 and in this vision I saw people gathered around an oval table. The table was low to the ground so that you had to sit on the floor. The people I saw sitting there around the table each had a piece of a puzzle. As they all worked together, the image on the puzzle began to take shape and when they were finished, the picture was of Jesus Christ. He was the center of the meeting. Each one had to do his part in finishing the puzzle and it was not left to one person to do the work of the group. This is how real relationships are built and what church done Jesus’ way should foster.

      This is church.

The only reason for the gathering of believers was to re-assemble the body of Christ with each part, I.e., the foot, the hand, the eye, etc. doing its part so that the church, Christ’s body on earth may be edified and that Christ may be glorified.

They did not gather because of a charismatic leader, I.e., a pastor.

They didn’t gather because of church programs.

They didn’t gather because of the worship team.

      • When one part of the body hurts every part hurts along with it. This type of relationship dynamic will never happen in a big church setting.

That’s beautiful. Yes, it is meant to be like that way. None of us is an expert on everything, we need eachother.

(O, I forgot: and the deeper truth/layers, I miss that too. This morning also: I almost fell asleep. )

    • From the few conversations we’ve had, I think that you and your husband should pray about starting a new group. I think you both should prayerfully consider this.

    I think so too, Tony..
