And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me, he cannot be My disciple. (Luk 14:27)
With all the prosperity, feel good, name it claim it, blab it grab it teaching out there from the seeker sensitive churches, along comes a man, Saeed Abedini, who takes what the Lord says seriously, picks up his cross, leaving the safety of the United States, the comforts of home, and goes to his native country, Iran, where Christians are hated, to plant house churches and gets himself thrown into prison where his life is a day to day matter meaning that at any moment the government could choose to end it. And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me, he cannot be My disciple (Luk 14:27). Jesus does not wants converts of convenience who follow Him for what they can get out of Him and who leave when times get tough and the cost gets high. But rather, Jesus wants disciples of conviction who pick up their cross and follow the Lord wherever He should lead. Even if it means death. “If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there shall My servant also be; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.
The preaching of the cross is not a message that will attract many followers but that is exactly the message that Jesus preached throughout His earthly ministry and His disciples preached the same message after His resurrection and subsequent ascension into heaven.Preaching anything but the true cross of Christ is to preach a false gospel and a false Christ and consequently, a false salvation. Paul said, For the preaching of the cross is foolishness to those being lost, but to us being saved, it is the power of God. (1Co 1:18)
