The Definition of a Denomination/ The Church of Laodicea
Here are some things that I researched and things that the Lord showed
me. I have included quotes from Witness Lee and Watchman Nee
1. (Christian Religious Writings / Theology) a group having a
distinctive interpretation of a religious faith and usually its own
organization (Eph 4:4 There is one body and one Spirit. In the same
way you were called to share one hope. Eph 4:5 There is one Lord, one
faith, one baptism,
Eph 4:6 one God and Father of all, who is over everything, through
everything, and in everything.)
Additional Quotes about the Local Church by Witness Lee and Watchman
Witness Lee further writes of the local church in Laodicea:
The main meaning of the Greek name Laodicea is the opinion, the
judgment, of the people. When a local church is full of peoples’
opinions, it surely will become neither cold nor hot. Because of its
lukewarmness, such a church will suffer being vomited out of the
Lord’s mouth. This is to be given up by the Lord because the taste of
that church is repulsive. Thus, a church that is full of peoples’
opinions, peoples’ judgments, is terrible. Even we would reject such a
church in the practice of the church life, not to mention that the
Lord would vomit it out. Peoples’ opinions are verses God’s judgment
and authority. This is why the Lord is standing at the door of the
church in Laodicea (v. 20), indicating that the Lord has been rejected
by that church.
(Witness Lee, Eldership (2), 88)
Currently there are ,in the United States alone, over 800
denominations based on people’s opinions and their individual
interpretations of the Word of God. We may see 800 denominations but
God sees one, the church of Laodicea. We live in a society where
government is run based on people’s opinions. We are crippled by our
need for people to have a good opinion of us. Joh 5:41 “I don’t
accept praise from humans. Joh 5:42 But I know what kind of people
you are. You don’t have any love for God.
Joh 5:43 I have come with the authority my Father has given me, but
you don’t accept me. If someone else comes with his own authority, you
will accept him.
Joh 5:44 How can you believe when you accept each other’s praise and
don’t look for the praise that comes from the only God?
Joh 12:42 Many rulers believed in Jesus. However, they wouldn’t admit
it publicly because the Pharisees would have thrown them out of the
Joh 12:43 They were more concerned about what people thought of them
than about what God thought of them.
Mat 5:11 Blessed are you when men shall revile you and persecute you,
and shall say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for My sake.
Mat 5:12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for your reward in Heaven
is great. For so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
How many have seen messages watered down, worship toned down, pastors/
leaders in fear of confronting sin because of the fear of man and what
his/her opinion of them might be.
